Jageshwar is a Hindu pilgrimage town near Almora in Almora district of the Himalayan Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is one of the Dhams (pilgrimage region) in the Shaivism tradition.
 
Temple City: Jageshwar is known for temple complex comprising of 124 large and small stone temples dating 9th to 13th century AD. Culture enthusiasts and historians visit the place to learn more about the ancient shrines and dynasties that built them.
 
The original temple is believed to be constructed by Adi Shankaracharya. It was customary for pilgrims on way to Kailash Mansarovar route to stop and worship Lord Shiva here and seek his blessings.   This area was also centre of Lakulisha Shaivism, a revivalist sect worshipping Lord Shiva.
 
More than 25 inscriptions from various periods can be found on the walls of these temples. The dialect is Sanskrit and Brahmi. There are around 108 shivlings in this sacred complex 
 
It is celebrated from 15 July to 15 August during the Hindu holy month of Shravan. Devotees come from all over the country to offer their prayers to Lord Shiva.
