Golu Devta Temple is located about 2 km from the main gate of Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary and about 15 km from Almora.

Golu Devta is the mythological and historical deity of the Kumaon region. The origin of Golu Devta is believed to be an incarnation of Gaur Bhairav (Shiva). Golu Devta is worshiped all over the region and is regarded with utmost faith by the devotees as the deity of justice.

Dana Golu has the original and oldest temple of Golu Devta. In many villages of Kumaon, Golu Devta worshiped as the presiding deity.

White clothes, a white turban, and a white shawl presented to Golu Devta. Devotees offer bells in the temple when their wishes are fulfilled.

Every year thousands of devotees visit this temple.

According to the belief, a commander of the Chand dynasty got the temple built in the 12th century. There are many stories about Golu Devta, the god of justice. The most famous of them is that the rulers of the Katyuri dynasty ruled here from the 7th to the 12th century.
 
The best season to visit Almora is the summers and the onset of winters. The favourable months to visit the place are between April to June and September to November. The climate remains pleasant during these months offering tourists and pilgrims the best holiday experience.
